From Couch to 5K – Day 1

Day 1

Here is Day One. The start of our journey. As I told you in this previous post I am committed to losing weight and getting fit. July 15th, I started making smarter food choices, as I explained in my previous post.

In case you don’t know what From Couch to 5K is, you can read more about it in this post. It is an 8 week program for beginners that basically works on the premise of its’ name. It gets you off the couch. It starts slowly, alternating between walking and running, until at the end, you are supposed to be able to run 5K (3.1 miles)

What I like about the From Couch to 5K application, is you can repeat days, if you don’t feel comfortable, For example, you start with Week 1, Day 1 and so on. I have repeated Day 1 because I can’t run for the 60 seconds when it prompts me to. I don’t want to proceed until I can master the day, so I don’t get discouraged by moving too quickly through the program. Each week has 3 days, because it recommends that you take a break between runs, to give your body time to rest and recuperate,

I need to be honest here. It isn’t easy, and I was shocked that I can’t even run for 60 seconds, but I will keep going. We can’t give up now!

If you remember I started off at 172 lbs, here are some statistics after day one (3 weeks after making smarter food choices and drinking LOTS of water):

FROM COUCH TO 5 K DAY 1 (07/25/16)

Weight 164.5 lbs.

28:30 minutes

Overall Distance –  1.52 Miles (inc. warm up and cool down)

Calories Burned: 232

Day 2

Running can also be a great family activity, Right now, Elaina just plays at the park while I run 🙂

What do you think? Do you want to run on this journey with me?
