How to save money on school supplies
We have three kids in school, one in high school this year, one in middle school, and one in elementary. Buying school supplies can be expensive. I want to share some money saving tips with you.
1. Sign up for reward cards such as Office Depot Rewards. Not only do you earn points on purchases, if you bring in used ink/toner cartridges you receive $2 per cartridge, (limit 10 per calendar month) I brought in 5 last month, and received $10 yesterday in rewards, which I used to buy 12 notebooks and 12 folders for a total of just the tax, .60!
2. Watch for sales, for example Office Depot has the same folders I bought yesterday for .01! (Limit 10)
3. Take advantage of warranties on existing products. Remember I told you about the limited lifetime warranty on JanSport bags in this post? Well, thanks to JanSport honoring that warranty, I have new books bags for the girls this year!
4. Shop during tax free week – This year; in Florida, it is August 1st – 3rd. During this period, no Florida sales tax or local option tax will be collected on sales of clothing, footwear, and certain accessories selling for $100 or less per item, on certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item, and on the first $750 of the sales price for computers and certain computer-related accessories when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use (Information credit here)
So far this year, I have spent a grand total of .60! I will keep you posted on progress and deals as I find them. If you have any more tips, feel free to leave them in the comments. 🙂
